# Younger-sounding speech in older children

This page is for speech and language professionals, educators, psychologists and other professionals who want to understand what Chippup does — and equally importantly, what it does not do.

## Our position

“Baby voice” is a parent description, not a clinical diagnosis. Younger-sounding speech can occur alongside regressive behaviour, stress or emotional overload, but similar parent descriptions may also encompass speech, language or voice difficulties requiring professional assessment. Chippup does not attempt to determine the cause.

## The Chippup scope

Chippup is being developed as a practice and self-awareness product for children who demonstrate access to a clearer/natural speaking voice but repeatedly revert to another younger-sounding voice in some contexts. The intended mechanisms are:

- self-observation
- pattern recognition
- low-pressure practice
- intentional voice switching
- repetition
- positive reinforcement

## What Chippup is not

Chippup is not:

- speech and language therapy
- psychotherapy
- a diagnostic assessment
- a treatment for anxiety
- a treatment for developmental regression
- a replacement for professional care

## Professional input

We want Chippup’s boundaries and claims to remain responsible. If you are a qualified professional interested in contributing expertise or feedback, we’d like to hear from you.
