Help them discover their voice — instead of fighting about it.
Chippup is a child-friendly programme being developed to help children understand and practise something adults often assume they can “just stop.”
Notice
First, children learn to hear and recognise differences in their own voice. Not: “Good voice versus bad voice.” But: “What does my voice sound like right now?”
Understand
Children begin noticing patterns. When does my voice change? How was I feeling? Who was I with? Was I nervous? Tired? Excited? Trying to be funny? Wanting comfort? Nothing is diagnosed. Children simply become curious about their own patterns.
Practise
In calm, private practice, children experiment with finding and switching between voices intentionally. This matters because deliberate practice is very different from being corrected in the middle of an emotional interaction.
Play
The eventual Chippup programme will turn voice practice into an interactive adventure. Speaking will make things happen. Challenges, quests, rewards and progression will give children a reason to practise without turning their voice into another piece of homework.
Own it
The long-term goal isn’t a parent who becomes better at reminding. It’s a child who develops greater awareness and voluntary control over their own voice.
Coming next
The interactive Chippup programme is currently being developed. Parents can register now to create their account and secure access when the programme opens.
Less “Stop doing that voice.” More “I know how to find my voice.”
